CA, Climate Change Mitigation & Sustainable Human Enterprise²³

CA has been identified and designated as one of 15 key strategies to mitigate climate change²⁴.  Among these 15 options, which are inter alia endorsed in Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth,²⁵  CA is the only option that has the following, simultaneous benefits; i.e. it is the essential eco-rational²⁶ option that:

• practically & holistically implements the ecosystems approach²⁷;
• protects the robustness of critical ecosystems services and processes²⁸;
• can be implemented by smallholder farmers;
• does not require commitment to an abstract, distant and future public good that requires immediate local sacrifice;
• does not require direct, front-loading public investment to produce indirect future gains;
• produces immediate local, directly measurable financial benefits, i.e. which makes climate change mitigation privately profitable (not including potential carbon trading profits);
• mitigates climate change by improving household food security, alleviating poverty, improving human & animal nutrition and enabling, empowering and emancipating farmers to take dignified and competent control of their destinies.
